This will be your first experience working with the SD card and the data transfer process on this radio. These steps will help you through that process
- There is only one way the card will fit.
- Do NOT force it.
- Presuming you are right handed and working such that you are looking at the front of the radio, the card should be facing you.
- The gold "teeth" will be away from you and will go into the radio first.
- Gently press the card into the slot until it clicks and stays firmly in place. If you must use a thin object to handle the limitations of the slot... do it carefully.
- The card will not work if it is not seated properly in the slot.
Once highlighted, press the [ENT] key on the radio (key at bottom left) to select this option

You are still in control. There are still two more questions to answer to begin the process.

This will transfer all the details of your radio to the SD card. Even in a new radio there are details that the Programmer needs to identify your radio.
Press the [ENT] key again to select his option.
The details of the radio will be transferred to the SD card.
The process takes only a matter of seconds to complete.
The Battery Save indicator will blink during the process.
[COMPLETE] will appear on the face of the radio when the process finishes.
It may not seem normal; but you press the SD card to release it from the slot.
The card will "eject" and be ready to remove.
Use the holder that came with the radio to grip the card or tweezers work well.
At all times be sure you do NOT touch to gold contacts. This could damage the card to the point it cannot be used by the radio or the computer.

The instructions that follow are designed for the USB reader that comes with the ADMS-FT1D programming kit. If you mount the card into a slot on the computer, a few details may be different; but the process is the same.
Windows may open a window asking what you want to do with the device. Select "Open folder to view files".
Windows Explorer (Computer) opens.
Look in the tree on the left for "Removable Disk" (as shown below).
You are not going to do anything with the files at this point other than familiarize yourself with how the SD card works in your computer.

The program opens in a default file (FT1D Untitled).
If you have been working in the Programmer, it will open the last file you saved with memory channel details. To prevent loss of the memory channel information in this file, do File | New before proceeding to the next step. Thie will create A new FT1D file that you can work in.
An Open box appears for you to direct the Programmer to the Removable Disk (SD card).
Click the down arrow to the right of the "Look in" box at the top of the screen. A directory listing for your computer is presented.
In the list find "Removable Disk" and left click on it.
The list will close and the directories and files on the Removable Disk will be listed on the right of the screen.
Be careful that you do NOT change the File name shown in the box at the bottom of the screen,
Select FT1D by double clicking on it or by clicking it once and clicking Open.
Select BACKUP by double clicking on it or by clicking it once and clicking Open.
Select BACKUP.dat by double clicking on it or by just clicking Open.
The Open window will disappear and data from your radio will be transferred into the Programmer.
You have completed this part of the process and are ready to set up a file for your radio with memory channels, VFOs, Limit memories and customized menu settings. You will need to repeat this part of the process if you make changes on your radio that you want to save to the computer or if you modify your radio to transmit outside the ham band.
Select Settings | Radio Menu Settings from the top of the screen.
On the settings screen, enter your callsign in the Callsign field at the lower left.
Click File | Save As (on the Settings screen)
Enter Settings as the Filename and click Save.
The Programmer will return to the Settings screen.
Click File | Exit to close the Settings screen.
As you build your file for the FT-1D radio, you will want to save it as you work.
Click File | Save As to save the file for use on the computer.
This is NOT the file that you will use to program the radio.
ClickCommunications | Write Data to SD Card to make the file ready for use by the radio.
This process will create the file that you will use to program the radio.
There are some very specific requirements for this file that the radio dictates. I will be sure to point those out in this process.

It's in this dialog that you will direct the program to the SD card... just as you did when you read from the card.
Click the down arrow in the Save in box at the top and pick the Removable Disk.

Click Save.
Don't do anything else on this screen.
The program will take care of everything else required by the radio including filename and directory.
Remember that if the radio does not see the EXACT filename, "backup.dat", in the EXACT directory that it wants it, you will not see your programming in the radio.

Remove the SD card from the computer.
Put it into the radio as shown in Step 1.
. You're almost there. You only need to transfer the data from the SD card to the radio.
Think about it... this is SOOOOOO similar to the process you used on other radios.... You did Get data from Radio... then created the file with the information you wanted programmed in the radio.... Saved the File.... Did Send data to radio to program those details into the radio.
The process for this radio is a little different because the transfer is not direct through a cable... but it still beats pressing all those buttons to program the memory channels and other options!!
When the radio cycles back on after reading the contents of the card, it will be programmed with the memory channels and other settings just as in the file you created on the computer.
